Halloween Events Near Prospector Ranch!

~ Natalia Radcliffe ~

Welcome to October! Autumn is in full swing! (Though the temperature here in California may not be crisp and cool just yet). Nevertheless, will that stop you from celebrating autumn festivities and getting into the Halloween spirit?

Nope.

For those of you in or near LA County and Ventura County, we have some ideas for Halloween events going on this month! All of these events are decently near to Prospector Ranch, so if you are coming to stay with us this month at one of our Airbnbs, you have some ideas for your vacation that won’t be too hard of a drive.

1. Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios

Every year around the beginning of fall, Universal Studios goes all out in the park at night to celebrate Halloween. Running until November 3, you will have the opportunity to get some good old scares, whether that is walking through a scare zone, going through a Haunted House, or going on the Terror Tram. Fair warning, if you do get scared easily, you may want to check out some of our other ideas.

This year, Universal’s Terror Tram theme is all about the Blumhouse franchise, a company who has created some pretty terrifying movies in the past decade, such as M3GAN, The Purge and Insidious, just to name a few. You will be able to wander around the backlot of Universal Studios, seeing some iconic sets from famous horror movies, such as the house from Psycho. Try not to get too scared by the characters walking around, though. As for their Haunted Houses, they have attractions centering around Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, The Weekend: A Nightmare Trilogy and A Quiet Place, just to name a few. For more information, you can check out their website.

2. Night of the Jack in Calabasas

Gillette Ranch is once again putting on the Night of the Jack event! It goes through November 2nd, and is about a 20 minute drive away from Prospector Ranch. The highlight of the event is strolling along the 1 mile trail where you get to see the ranch decked out in all things Halloween, the stars being the hundreds of lit jack-o-lanterns. It’s quite the sight to see. In addition, the ranch offers food trucks for some tasty treats, as well as a “Spookeasy”, where adults can enjoy an alcoholic beverage. You can also get to see pumpkin carvers at work, creating art out of a simple pumpkin. And that’s not all there is to offer. They also have face painting, a little maze and jewelry making section for the kids, an opportunity to visit a psychic and have your palm read, tarot card reading, energy reading or love and compatibility reading, and an opportunity to buy fine, elegant, permanent jewelry from Raine Calabasas. Ticket prices vary depending on the day and time you go, and if you get a ticket for a specific time, or if you get a VIP ticket that allows you to access the trail at any time that evening, at your leisure. Check out their website for more details.

3. Dog Costume Contest in Ventura

For any of your who are dog lovers, there will be a dog costume content at Ventura Harbor Village, about an hours drive from Prospector Ranch, on the 26th. Aptly named the Howl-o-Ween dog costume contest, it’s a chance to for your dog to show off its cutest or scariest costume! A professional photographer will be on site to take pictures that show off your furry companion’s costumes.  The event goes from 12pm to 2pm. You can pre-register for the competition on October 17, on the Ventura Harbor Village’s website, which we have included. Up to 75 people can participate. Of the participants, there will be 5 grand winners. However, as thanks for participating, all dogs will go home with a small bag of goodies to remember the day. Our Vintage 1972 Airstream Airbnb at Prospector Ranch is dog-friendly, so if you are going to be visiting us at Prospector Ranch, you and your furry companion (or companions) can have a unique and comfortable place to stay, not too far from the event!
