Happy 4th of July from Prospector Ranch!

~ Natalia Radcliffe ~

It’s the beginning of July, which means here in the U.S, it’s 4th of July this week! Every year in the height of summer, Americans everywhere celebrate the United States of America’s birth, the day we declared our independence and took the first steps toward becoming our own nation. It’s a day of merriment, and a chance to spend some quality time with family and friends, enjoy good food, and see some fantastic fireworks shows.

Enjoying fireworks in celebration of independence dates back to the very first celebration, in 1776. Founding Father John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail that the vote to secede from England should be met with festivities of all kinds, including fireworks, a tradition to be celebrated each year forevermore.

Although John Adams originally saw July 2nd as the day to celebrate, as that was the day almost all the colonies voted in favor of independence from England (New York voted in favor a few days later), July 4th was the day that the Continental Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence.

Regardless of the day, John Adams did foresee Americans celebrating their country’s birth. July 4th is one of the days that sees the most fireworks out of any other day of the year.

Speaking of fireworks, looking for places to watch some this holiday? We got some ideas for you.

The Hollywood Bowl is hosting their annual Fourth of July celebration, with Harry Connick Jr. as a guest this year. The gates open at 5:30 pm, and you can get tickets through their website.

Conejo Recreation and Park District and City of Thousand Oaks 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular is having its annual celebration, starting at 9pm. The best place to view the fireworks will be from Janns Marketplace and the Oaks Mall parking lots.

In Santa Barbara, you can watch fireworks on the beach, specifically West Beach. The fireworks start at 9:00 pm, and there are many other activities throughout the day you can enjoy, a perfect opportunity to make a day trip out of the holiday, if you want.

After a day filled with 4th of July fun, if you are looking for somewhere to spend the night we have a Conestoga covered wagon, vintage 1972 Airstream, or a Safari tent Airbnb you can stay in and enjoy a relaxing evening surrounded by the soothing sounds of nature, all while being just a few minutes away from civilization.

From all of us at Prospector Ranch, hope you have a great 4th of July!
