Prospector Ranch’s Tips on Beating California Summers
~ Natalia Radcliffe ~
It’s officially been summer here in California for a couple of months now, and we have been seeing consistent triple digits in some parts of the state.
Summer is in full swing, everyone!
With higher temperatures means a greater importance must be placed on avoiding overheating. That is not a fun experience.
For anyone out and about in Southern California this summer or visiting us this summer, we want you to have an enjoyable time!
Thankfully, there are some easy things you can do to avoid becoming overheated or getting a sunburn.
1. Drink lots of water
When you are hot, you sweat more to stay cool. That means you’re using more water. If you don’t drink enough water, you could risk dehydration and getting overheated. However, be careful to not drink too much water at once! A good strategy is to take little sips consistently throughout the day. Therefore, make sure to always have a water bottle with you when you are out and about during the summer. Your body will thank you for it!
2. Don’t overexert yourself
Make sure to take breaks throughout the day, especially in triple-degree weather. Preferably, take your breaks in the shade while sipping some water. The sun can get hot in the summer, so taking breaks in the shade can help cool off and escape the sun’s rays for a time.
3. Wear sunscreen
If you are embarking on an outdoor adventure, make sure to have sunscreen with you, and apply it regularly. You want to protect your skin! The effects of a sunburn can last for days, and it’s no fun to deal with.
4. Come stay at one of our AirBnbs!
Okay, we know we are a little biased with this last one. If you are looking for somewhere to stay the night while out on a summer vacation, Prospector Ranch is located closer to the ocean, so we have a more temperate climate. In addition, we have lots of shade on the property. There are places to lounge around with a good book or take a nap underneath the canopy of large oak trees on the property, comfortably shielded from the sun’s warm rays. Furthermore, each of our Airbnbs have air conditioning, so you can relax in a cool, comfortable space.
We hope you have a happy and safe summer, and remember: stay cool!
