Prospector Ranch’s 3 Tips For Hosting a Successful Outdoor Summer Event
~ Natalia Radcliffe ~
Summer is a great time to plan outdoor events. The warmer weather brings memories of barbecues, pool parties, or sitting under the shade talking with loved ones or friends sipping on a refreshing ice-cold drink. To make your summer event an awesome experience, we have 3 tips we want to share with you!
1. Have plenty of water on hand.
It’s always important to stay hydrated when you are out and about in the summer, but it’s especially important to do so in dry conditions like California. When you get hot, you sweat to stay cool, using up more water. In drier conditions, that sweat evaporates more quickly than in humid conditions, which makes it harder to realize when you become dehydrated. So, make sure your guests have plenty of opportunities to drink some of that H2O. Hydrated guests are happy guests!
2. Have plenty of spaces for shade.
The sun’s rays can feel quite hot in the summer. Plus, it can be easier to get a sunburn, even if you do put on sunscreen. Having plenty of shade for guests allows them to not only escape the sun’s warm rays and into the cooler shade, but it can reduce the opportunities for your guests to get a sunburn as well. Here at Prospector Ranch, we have plenty of spaces for shade underneath a canopy of large oak trees on the property, keeping guests comfortably shielded from the sun’s warm rays. In addition, we have a saloon that guests can sit in and enjoy the view, possibly even enjoying a nice, cold drink as well.
3. Be strategic with the time of day you choose to host the event.
The time of day can make all the difference, especially during the summer. It is a lot easier to keep happy, cool guests when you aren’t trying to battle the heat of the day, and make sure there is shade, and make sure you have plenty of water for everyone. If possible, we recommend that you plan an outdoor event at the beginning of the day, or at the end of the day. For example, in California, at 7:00am or 8:00am, it could still be in the 70s outside, rising up to the 80s and 90s later in the morning. Likewise, by 5:00pm or 6:00pm in the day, the sun is starting to set, and its rays aren’t as directly shining down on the earth, therefore making you feel hotter. The later the day goes on, the lower the sun sets, and the cooler it becomes. In the evenings at Prospector Ranch, the property can look quite pretty, as a lot of the time for late afternoon/evening events we string up lights all around the property that give off a warm, enchanting glow in the fading sunlight hours and during the night.
