Giving to Others is a Part of Life
~ Natalia Radcliffe ~
starting off the month of May, we’re going to delve deeper into owner Meggan Kimberley’s experiences with volunteering, and why charity and volunteer work are such an integral part of her life.
For Meggan, volunteer work has always been in her life, ever since she was a child. Both her mother and grandmother made it a priority in their lives, so it was only natural that Meggan grew up with a similar mindset. To her, volunteer work balances her life. It’s something that rejuvenates her soul.
It was because of this mindset she decided to donate a percentage of funds she made from Prospector Ranch to a charity near and dear to her heart, Mercy Childcare, located in Uganda. The charity rescues orphaned children, and Meggan often donates to and works with the organization, visiting when she can. Mercy Childcare has created a small village outside the city of Kampala, housing an orphanage, hospital, church, school, and a women’s education center to help with micro-businesses. Meggan’s husband Chris has also gone several times and helped with the electrical in some of the buildings, as well as fund a new well for the village.
Meggan’s old accountant, Mary Akpovi, is the one that introduced her to Mercy Childcare. One of the most giving women Meggan’s ever met, Mary has devoted her life to helping charities in Kenya as well as Mercy Childcare. One of the things she often does is empower and assist women with starting up their own micro businesses, that might include seamstress work, nail and hair salons, and bakeries.
Meggan also enjoys hosting fundraisers to raise money for charities. at the end of may, she will be hosting one for the charity Children to Love.
Children to Love is a charity in the United States that distributes donated money to Mercy Childcare. In addition, the organization is involved in other charity work in Ukraine, Romania and India.
Stay tuned for more information on the fundraiser and the charity in future blogs!
